INNOVATIONS IN EDUCATION GRANTS AWARDED 2018-19
SAM PLACENTINO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
"Look at Us - a Dive into Sage Creek." Students in a French Immersion 2nd grade class have become tour guides - introducing their Holliston to a French Immersion class from Sage Creek in Manitoba Canada. Using a variety of technologies and other materials, the students will connect between classrooms in the two countries, and help each other learn about the customs, traditions and unique aspects of their respective towns. They are selecting landmarks, interviewing people in town, and talking with their families to learn about what made them choose to live where they currently live. Students are actively learning "What makes a community" and how a community shapes people, not only in their area, but across the world. Video recordings, Skyping, guest speakers, Padlet applications, Green Screen and Flipgrid capabilities are being used by the students along with model building and group presentations to each other's classrooms, parents and faculty of each school. This project is a pilot in 2019, but can be replicated readily in other classrooms in the future. Leader: Aaron Snyder.
